The conversation began, like most good conversations do, over coffee.
“We should start our own business one day. Just you and me, doing what we love to do.”
This was two years ago, not long after Kristen and I had graduated from the University of Texas and were still navigating our way through a 9-to-5 world void of classrooms, study dates, and scheduled exams.
No matter what they say, college doesn’t prepare you for the “real world.”
Both of our jobs at the time were less than fulfilling, and we desperately needed a creative outlet to call our own. Of course, it was destined to incorporate writing, the one hobby we’d always shared. I had been blogging for the heck of it since high school, and Kristen spent her evenings after work building an impressive portfolio of short stories and poetic prose. But there was something brewing in the back of our minds—a subtle stirring that we simply couldn’t ignore—to do more with our time and talents.
Months drifted by, with this pesky little thing called life diverting our attention from what we really wanted. Until one windy January day I finally said, “If we’re ever going to do it, we have to just…do it.”
Kristen nodded her head, two ever-present coffee cups between us. “You’re right. It’s time to start somewhere.”
Less than a month later, Her Story Goes was born.
Late nights and early mornings are now spent here, creating content we love for readers we can’t wait to meet. It’s the first thing on our minds when our feet hit the floor every day, and the only job we’ve ever had that doesn’t feel like work. And we have to ask ourselves, isn’t this how life is supposed to feel?
Invigorating, meaningful, and even a little bit lovely. Intentional.
We’re no longer dragging ourselves out of bed in the AM, exhausted and uninspired. No more reluctantly giving in to the daily grind, and relying on caffeine to get us through each day. This is the beginning of our journey to living well and with purpose.
College might not have prepared us for what was to come after we walked across the vast stage to receive our diplomas, but friendship sure did. As sisterhood has been our saving grace all of these years, we wanted to invite every woman who longs for relatable, authentic connection into this sisterhood, to use in whatever way strikes their fancy. We’re sharing our stories, thoughts, ideas, daily inspiration, and maybe a few fashion tips along the way—in hopes that you’ll do the same!
Her Story Goes was made with a specific mission in mind, and we’re beyond excited to share it with you. Think of it as a lifestyle blog for real women who are figuring it out as they go. This is our way of saying, let’s figure it out together.
So please, make yourself comfortable! Grab a cup of coffee. Stay awhile. We’d love to hear your story.
